The Serpent And The Mermaid

In deepest, deep water
the big bang '76, or '62
serpents were born
lived and died here
beasts just like me:

Proud, broken leviathan
trading everything
for the power
to breathe life
and all that is fire
into one mermaid's soul
washed up from beyond
the blue fathoms deep,
on the foam of
our trackless sea.

Watch her very close...
the heart will flutter so
very soon, not unlike
dragonfly wings.

Now, she floats
Mermaid lady who
broken spells of glass
makes everything blue--
you know...

the trackless sea,

on singing crystal wings
the dragon's bright eye
and a distant sun rising
the burning warmth,
into the heart we flew.

This one was descriptive and lovely.. I love the line, "watch her very close ... the heart will flutter so very soon, not unlike dragonfly wings". Just beautiful.

mmmmmmm....the trackless sea....

"Watch her very close...
the heart will flutter so
very soon, not unlike
dragonfly wings"....

I'm sitting in the sand, waiting, watching,
the trackless sea
for the tiniest flutter,
the little splash,
the sudden sign that says
it is so.....

Absolutely beautiful.......

Again, as whole I really enjoyed this poem. Yet, you continue to throw those little jabs in that--I don't know--they just pop and call out to me...

"Proud, broken leviathan
trading everything
for the power
to breathe life..."

Bless all of you by whatever power you hold most dear.

You picked out a very choice line. My compliments.

It's all inspired and I am glad to be the vessel. Pece out!

The muse is here on my shoulder, like an angel or devil.

It's definitely all my fantasy reading (Margret Weiss and Tracy Hickman) coming to bear in this one. Cheers!

You know all about this one. It truly is so, my friend. Indeed it is.

Circles go on forever. Time to let them roll...

eric1313 said...

Everyone: Sorry I haven't gotten back to people on my recent posts. Settling in at a new place all week has made things a little "eggy", as Ali G says. But now its chill...

As I said to Sing, the circles...

Everything that is life is my inspiration.

Welcome and thanks for the words or praise. Talk to you soon.

Welcome to you, as well. It is awesome how everyone is eperated by only a few degrees. Peace out.

And I won't ask! Just don't tell...

eric1313 said...

Thanks for the continued visit, my loyal friend. Hope you enjoy "All My Friends Are Going To Be Strangers" as much as I do.

McMurtry is the shizzle.

Very much. I think... hahaha

It's fantasy. And love is a fantasy as much as dragons and mermaids. Only a bit more tangible.

Me too. I dated a dragon once... She was unbelivable, both in love and in her tempests... But the eyes, you never forget them.

Mermaids? I'm still waiting for that. They don't swim in fresh water. But they do float.

eric1313 said...

Thank you for the lines, sir...

From the belly of a whale--
a prophet
a serpent
a mermaid
and a single wish
for all to find which they seek.

Enemy of the Republic
You know this one well. I'll have to fine tune it a little more, but that's all good. Thanks! See you soon.

eric1313 said...

Glad to see you around, friend.

And very glad you enjoyed this. You've read so much stuff, that it's cool whenever you say anything, from praise to advice.

Thanks for the praise and yes, I do try to be catchy with lines. I used to try and write songs-lyrics never worked well for me, try as I might, but I did have a tallent for writing "hooks" in the music itself.

People often mistook me for being a great guitar player, when really, I'm just a "bloozer" who can adapt on the fly to heavy thump or delicate classical--"light and shade", like Jimmy Page would say.

Peace out, y'all

Blancodeviosa said...

oh yeah, and dragon breath is the best!

never learned to watch for the burn

ok, i will come back when i can make sense.

eric1313 said...

You make perfect sense! Like I said, I dated a dragon lady in human form--which one of us is out of meds???????

Not you!

(OK, OK, my meds consist of green leafy drugs from a "drugstore" on the corner Troester and Celestine in the D. I've been cut off, since the more miles one has to drive with the "stuff", the more the risk increases, and my next strike is three. At least this nation has a tradition of Jailhouse authors--even if jailhouse poets aren't exactly part of that tradition)

eric1313 said...

hey, at least I'll be an innovator... Jailhouse romantic poet. booya shaka!

Blancodeviosa said...

yeah i just got new meds.

the transition is always a thing to behold.
apparently insomnia is the newest fetish of the day

Blancodeviosa said...

booya shaka indeedy!

but why risk it. just become a little prescrition junky like yourstruly

can you say booya train wrecky becky?

oh wait my names not becky..

eric1313 said...

Booya shaka!

I have. I'm a hundred fifty miles from Detroit. I had to move all last week. I'm sober and finding my way through a world that I once tried very hard to forget about.

Yeah, I should contact a doctor and have an "episode" in mid conversation...

No insane assylums in Michigan (no funds for that)--aside from the really expensive ones for the rich "overly eccentric" types, and for children. So I could really let'er rip and not worry about a thing...

eric1313 said...

Thanks, Shortstop. I'll talk to you soon. Throw me a call if your going to be passing by Lansing.

Blancodeviosa said...

nah, you will be ok. assylums are for pussies.

us true crack pots edge up to people and ask them for electric blue nail polish

or maybe that's just me..

eric1313 said...

You're not crazy. You're a bad ass who gets repressed and told you're crazy. Don't believe them.

Keep listening to that odd drummer and ask everyone in a conspiritorial voice for electric blue nail polish.

thanks for the words, friend. Glad to know we're all sane, and it's the rest who are crazy.

Eric ALL of your words are so beautiful, so profound.
I picture the 'Mermaid lady who
broken spells of glass
makes everything blue' creating the sea to reflect upon & the sky to look up's all just so beautiful. Above & below, inside & out...simply soulful.

Some folks (I won't name them) would think that love is not a fantasy, but instead one big ugly mess. I guess the trick is to turn fantasy into reality.
