Her smile is my bridge--
I cannot see it
cannot touch it
but I know it is there;
and I wish it would last forever.
Her laugh is my symphony--
I cannot hear it
cannot feel it
but it's melody is in my soul,
building like a sonata in the night.
Her heartbeat is a gentle thunder,
music that my own heart answers
beat for beat for beat...
For I hear her symphony
I walk her bridge,
and the storm, the night
are not quites so long...
Nothing can keep us from
hearing the beloved thunder
of this midnight symphony,
a heartbeat from the blue,
from the darkside of our world.
Above: A thunderstorm during a sunset. Over a bridge, no less. How lucky can one be to find pics like that that match up so well with the subject? Especially considering that they are free domain pictures from NASA, and Astronomy Picture of the Day.
Below: If you look closely, you can see a pinkish glow from refracted sunlight in the air just before the the darkness, indicating a spectacular sunset is taking place.

38 charges of vandalism dropped:
Clinkity Tink! That's the bomb my friend,
a smile....
a bridge....
laughter in the wind!
Singleton
You summed it up perfectly:
The Bomb!
Exactly, my friend, no matter how far away, we can remain kindred and close. I've had this one for a little while, but only now was it the right time to post it.
Her smile is my bridge--
I cannot see it
cannot touch it
but I know it is there;
and I wish it would last forever.
Beautiful...! It is there, and you will find it, and it will last forever!
Josie
I hope so! I'm not looking, not really, anyway, but if I stumble or shuffle past it, I'll know.
And I thank you for your optimism. It's infectious, you know?
Strange synchronicity here.
I was told by my students while in the middle of my divorce to write poetry somewhat like yours. They said it would be good therapy.
Well,what you've got up isn't therapy; you've written a mini-Mass
Uh, Eat your heart out, Brahms, with your kyrie elaisons. :)
i wonder if im someone's symphony..
that's such beautiful mindspeak..
smooth, sir.
^_^
happy holidays, etc.
may all your wishes and dreams come true in the new year..
how is it that true love evades an experienced poet, sweet and sensitive, such as yourself??
Ivan
It is therapeutic. It helps me to think positive.
And I love the comparison to one of the great masters... I love that. If only I could have a royal patron like Brahms had, then it would a lot easier to come up with these poems.
As it is, this one was like twice as long, but I sheared it down to only what was needed. I'm still waiting on word to find out if it was the right thing. Princess has the google reader hook up, so she'll see all four or five of the other versions of it and let me know if there's any gems I cut out of it needlessly.
Peace out.
Neko
You will find your symphony, and it will make you dance, I promise. You'll know because the music in their soul will be your favorite new song. You won't be able to get enough of it, and they will be the same way.
You've found it before, you will find it again.
And how has it evaded me? Because I'm a picky bastard! I won't settle for less than what I feel I deserve. I won't date someone just to be dating someone. That's not the right way to go, that's how you end up in an unhappy relationship. And it seems that when I find love, it ends up being the wrong way. So I'll wait. I'm perfectly happy alone.
(I keep telling myself that.)
Take care! And good luck to you, my friend.
Peace out.
That was beautiful. One of my favorites.
BBE
Thank you! Like I said above, I worked really hard on this one to get it just right.
Yes, the pics match the poem very nicely. Good lyrical piece.
Hi Eric, thanks for your good wishes. Your poems always seem to suit my mood, uncanny that. What would we do without bridges to cross?
I loved it! definitly one of my favorites. not just cuz of the pinkish pic, the world could need a lil' pink.. (or red)
wow, being someones symphony, thats big... a great honour if nothing else. It shows that you have put in your soul into this work.
cheers mate...
"Her smile is my bridge".
You know love so very well.
When one person connects you to everything that matters.
Sorry I have been more absent lately. As a secret blogger in a house full of people, I have to select moments to reconnect with my other little world.
I am a little in shock that your car decided to commit ritualistic suicide. I guess you're making it from A to B on feet for now, hey? I hope there's at least a fire or some hot chocolate to keep you warm at your destination.
Best holiday wishes, my friend.
I've seen some spectacular sunsets from on high, but nothing like this.
So what bridge is this over? I looked as hard as I could, but didn't see it:-)
It's beautiful, sweet and lovely. You'll find her. :)
beautiful words
remind me of
clear washing windows
of
spring days
in cars
with
tops down!
beneath her weight
the traffic light
changed
thirteen times.
i'm a scorpio
but
my moon
is in
uranus.
"I wish it would last forever"
Hopefully it will last a really long time. Very nice!
YES!
I am back, I know, right!
I'll catch up with everything asap. Darn i missed everyone. Feels good to be back!
Thank You so much for always being here. Thank You.
A smile is a bridge, but it is only half a bridge, it is a bit like Tower bridge, the bridge comes when two smiles meet.
Now we know where you get your fine astronomy pics from :)
a gentle thunder between two hearts exists ... even when vast distances separate those two hearts.
beautiful post.
Hey that post is Poetry in Motion...
so we meet again...
Your blog turns up everywhere... I was hopping quite at random through blogs of blogfriends through comments etcetcetc and hey you popped up again
have a great 2008!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Charles
Thanks for the stops. I do try to make every line fit, and to match the rhythm in each successive line.
It doesn't always work, but... well, I try to make it work! Thanks again.
Brian
It must be something in the air this time of year. And love is always universal. Gotta love it!
Thank you, to you too.
Have a great new year, everyone.
Crashy!
I'm so glad you dropped by and saw the final product.
It really is a beautiful poem. And all one has to do to live up to being a symphony is to be their self. Nothing else required.
Thank you for everything, my friend.
Princess
It's a beautiful thing, to imagine someone with you and it is so. Our memories are powerful things. And this is a combination, love and faith. That's what I really loved about it.
Don't worry at all about absence. I know you, and you are one busy person, as are most of you right now.
Yeah, the car... It's bad, but something will be done. I have a lot to do at the moment, and so soon I might be too busy to post and to visit, but I hope everything will smooth out. Life is one hell of a bumpy ride--but I'm not alone. We all experience it that way.
A fire? Only if you count kind, gracious people like yourself who always understand me and greet me warmly.
Thanks for that. Peace out.
X Dell
It's a bridge over the bonnie, bonnie Atlantic, over the Pacific, over Antarctica, over the deserts and wastes, over the frozen seas. Of course, I know you're kidding, but hey, I figured I'd field that one.
And you have to love a sunset from outer space... who doesn't?
Karma
I know I'll find her one day. Thank you for your faith in my ability to find love.
I'll always take that compliment and run with it.
Peace out, y'all.
Crashtest Comic
What a beautiful mix. Free verse with limerick sensibility.
That's mad skills in action!
Thanks for the laugh, I can always use bunches of them.
Captain Corky
Forever is a long time, isn't it? I'll settle for a few years. Better to love and lose it than to not know it's grace at all.
Edyta
And like that, she is reborn!
No problem--you write some really wonderful lines, yourself, so it's easy to encourage that kind of greatness.
And it's good to see you're sweet little avatar back on this page.
Take care and write like the wind.
Crushed
That is true--the truest beauty is in the reception, the answer to the call. It takes two, as we learned in Arnold Layne, "takes two to know"...
And that's the truth.
Yep, I figured I'd out my source of great astronomical pics. It's also filled with a lot of great details about them.
And I forgot it here, but the links to the jet propulsion lab are really informative. Just goes to show what we are really capable of. I just want to know why we don't already have an outpost on Ganymede or Callisto...
Peace out.
Red Mantissa
The distance can close to nothing if you know and trust that that person is with you. Two individuals, thoughts intertwined.
I love it.
Thanks for the stop. I know you have been ultra busy, so it's just nice to see you.
Peace out.
Gledwood
We do meet again, on this page at least. I trust Dostoevsky is going well, or that you're already done with it.
Yeah, I get around! :) But so do you. I see you everywhere, too. It's fun being social all over the world. We are on a great medium to reach out.
And thanks for the words about the poems, as always.
Peace out.
MyUtopia
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU, TOO!
Glad to see you as always. I hope the new year brings another fifty two exciting books.
My backwards Pistons cap is off to you.
Beautiful!!
Your words are gemstones.
Bless you my friend,
Maithri
"a heartbeat from the blue,
from the darkside of our world."
is the part that speaks of what it's like without what you describe above.
Maithri
And your words are the same, my friend. Lots of people agree, that you are very much the heart and soul of your part of the blogger universe. As Singleton and I found long ago, when The Soaring Impulse was but a new page on the links.
Peace...
Bemused
It also describes distance, from light to dark. I was kind of being physical with that description, but it can also mean a lack of the music, the smile that symphony.
I wrote this one for a distant friend, inspired by her energy and enthusiasm and her love for life. I took it up a few notches into the romantic zone to get it here.
Thanks for the stop, though. I'm glad to talk about it now that it's out of the limelight, you know? Didn't want to make anyone feel self conscious.
Yeah, nice! Good one.
Gillian
Thanks for being such a cool reader and friend.
Always glad to share with people like you.
bliss, i luv it.....
if you can see it..you're almost there...blessed are the hearts that belong together, they will find a way...some time, some place...
k:))
Karoline
This one was indeed special. It was for a long distance friend, one who inspires me greatly.
If we can imagine, we are half way there. I like that. Very positive, positive actuation.
It will be done... I wish it were always that easy. Many times, it is not.
