The fruit of creation
the grapes of bounty
wither and die
hanging from this
tethering vine
where life once sprung
from green earth
in torrents of beauty
seemingly without end

Toast no living soul
with this wine
bitter and malnurtured;
tear drops
falling into a dead sea
called Lake Perdition

Toast only the light
that delivers all to
the loving arms of night
free from this vine
that tethers and poisons
the fruit it bears
to every desire
hope or wish
to live one day longer
than the hour of the end

Very strong and confident poem. Great slow swinging rhythm, like a spiritual, like a funeral march. Integrated around the central image from the photo. Dark material can produce work of beauty, like this. Welcome back.

Thanks for the words, the welcome and the visits. Certainly, there was enough going on when I wrote it a while back, but in light of recent events, it became even more focused.

Peace out.

A lot of love in these words. Remember the life Eric, it's worth holding in the night.

It definitely fits, but as for a tribute, I would love to do more than this. It feels a little bitter to me. I liked it and it works great, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the comments.

You said it, Karma. Mournful is the right word for it.

Just Me

Glad to see you around! And thank you so much. I always hope that you are one of my silent readers. But it really is cool to see you chime in.

Thanks, and I'll see you soon.

Your thoughts are not in vain. They surround me and lift me high like a fire in this coldest of winters.

Thank you, as well.

Always. She's riding along with me in this journey, and I will be forever grateful for that.

Take care and talk to you soon.

Bittersweet, my friend.

Hope you are doing well this holiday season. I am trying to get home for the holidays, but failing miserably-- bless the airlines!

That's another perfect word to describe it.

Hope that Air Canada straightens their act out for you. They have no idea who they're messing with, do they?

I will. Toast not the darkness, but only the beautiful light.

Peace and love to you as well.

words infidelis -this week I saw rime is that frosty covering on trees ooh I much prefer crystalline hahah

eric1313 said...

Yes, I took took the phrase "Semper Fi" or "Semper Fidelis" (foever faithful), and changed it to meet my needs. The word infidel comes from fidel, or fidelity, and is a word that means one who is incapable of faithfulness. I changed it to what seemed like the Latin form, though I have no idea whether or not "Infidelis" is the correct way of saying it or not.

It just sounded cool to me.

Thanks for the comments, Sandy.

Take care!

I'm lost for words here to convey the emotions I feel.

Then this one worked. It was hard to express a lot of these thoughts. A bit like pulling teeth. I wrote it a while back, but not until recently did I have the nuances down just right.

Thanks for the comment.

Eric... I've just gone back over your blog. I am so sorry about your aunt; please accept my heartfelt condolences and may G-d spare you and your family further grief.

My first reaction to this poem was that nothing lasts for ever and then I read about your aunt. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that she is now in a beautiful place, free of pain, surrounded by loved ones

my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours

love ann

Thank you. Just thank you.

I loved her and you know it, I know it and everyone else does, too.

peace and love to you.

Thank you Eric. Admittedly I felt silly leaving a 'nothing' comment.

Ahhh... Don't mention it.

I fill in the blanks nicely, no?

It was just fine, so never a worry, right?
